Lu Yu, b. 1953, Canton, China

After attending The Beijing Cinema College, Lu became a special effects designer for Zhajiang Film Studio. Yu studied cartoons and animation at the Academy of Canton Province and the Film Art Academy of China and His comic art work was published in various newspapers and magazines.

In 1985, Lu immigrated to San Francisco and worked at a photography lab for seven years. In 1996, Lu became a member of the Professional Photographers of America (PPA). Lu won the PPA’s Art Tech Group’s Artist of the Year Award in 2000, 2002, and 2003. In addition to these awards, Lu had twelve artworks selected into the PPA’s Loan Collection. In 2003, Lu received his Master Art degree.

Lu now focuses on painting the Western landscapes, mountains, and Pacific coastal and city views. Lu’s painting style often uses the deep tones combined with natural color and light. The focus is on lighting and color to create his unique effects. Lu also enjoys painting the figurative works of American children.
