Mick Doellinger, b. 1956, Germany
From an early age Mick Doellinger was fascinated with animals, nature and art and in fact, he cannot recall a time when his life did not revolve around them.
Doellinger has lived in Fort Worth, Texas since 2003, but grew up in Australia, where he gained many of the skills he uses today in his sculpting process. From his early days of rodeo, taxidermy, guiding and wildlife management, Mick’s lifelong accumulation of “hands-on” knowledge has given him distinct insights into the characteristics, movements and anatomy of his subjects. Doellinger gained international industry recognition with his sculpted taxidermy manikins for their “physical accuracy” and “unique artistry”. Doellinger hopes viewers of his art will engage with the sculptures in some way, whether it’s connecting with a particular animal or learning something new about a species and their attributes.
Over the past thirty-plus years Doellinger has honed his sculpting skills, melding his working knowledge of anatomy with a deep understanding of animal behavior. Mick exhibits his sculptures in galleries, museums and juried shows across the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia.
