Press release

Trailside Galleries is pleased to present a showcase of new works by New Mexico artist Dinah Worman. The show will be on exhibit at the gallery from July 1 through July 31.

Worman’s landscape paintings are instantly recognizable for their clarity and depth. Light is everywhere. It filters through the trees and streams, between the clouds. She is able to retain this vitality because she is continually renewing her vision.  She notes, “I work to press beyond method and into a flow of creative instinct; using pastel, oil, acrylic or printmaking to express myself with unusual compositions and expanding vision.

The West is where Dinah Worman’s roots and family history are. Living with the view of vast, open landscapes and towering mountains has influenced her perspective on the landscape. Over time, she has shifted her focus from an interpretive style of realism to a contemporary view by focusing on the juxtaposition of objects in the landscape. Buildings, equipment, people, cattle, diagonal lines separating the space, are all tools within the composition.  It’s what she refers to as a “stacked landscape,” a near vertical composition of abstracted fields and roads ending at the horizon.

Worman notes, “Painting for this show has been a further exploration into stacked landscape compositions. Working with thick paint found me sometimes scraping areas that did not turn out as I planned. To my surprise, I liked what was left behind. Adding and subtracting in layers began to reveal itself as a technique that I wanted to develop. This group of paintings ranges from very thick impasto to paintings that also include layered, scratched back paint, brushwork and painting knife application.

Worman has earned the designation of Master Pastellist from the Pastel Society of America. She has been featured in various newspaper and magazine articles including Southwest Art, The Pastel Journal and The Artists Magazine. Most recently, she was awarded First Place for Two Dimensional Art at the Cowgirl Up Show held at the Desert Caballeros Museum in Wickenburg, Arizona
