The Lakota culture teaches us to consider the impact of our actions on future generations while taking into account our moral obligation to honor past generations. This understanding of one’s proper place and time is extremely important. To speak and act with respect and honor is the greatest gift we can give to ourselves and to future generations. This is also the best way to honor those who came before us.

Having a deep respect for ourselves, each other, the earth and all of its creatures is the highest virtue. This along with many other things is some of what I have learned from a lifetime of studying native culture and western art. These ideas are what I hope to share and communicate with this new series of paintings. I believe it’s important and extremely valuable for us at this time to return to the basic principles of mutual respect and reverence for all life.

This is what is meant by the phrase, “to walk in a sacred manner“ which is a Native American saying that we can all learn from and hopefully put into practice and make the world a better and more peaceful and respectful place for us all to live.“ - Greg Overton
