Mikel Donahue has won the Premier Platinum Award at the 2010 Buffalo Bill Art Show & Sale. Mikel''s work "Long Days," colored pencil/watercolor, 18x23 inches, captivated the small group of highly respected judges, who commented: “This work of art is classically American and tells a uniquely western story. It is a simple subject beautifully rendered and infused with feeling. Working at a high level of technical skill in an unusual medium, the artist captured a moment in time. We’re able to feel the hot, dusty end of a long day in the long shadows. We are left wondering: How does he do that?”
Trailside Galleries is pleased to announce that Michael Godfrey has been awarded Best in Show at the Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters 2010 National Show in Crested Butte, Colorado for his painting “Early Morning Light.” In addition, Michael was featured in the May/June 2010 issue of Art of the West Magazine.
Michael Godfrey is a representational landscape artist whose work hangs in many private and corporate collections. Born in Germany in l958 and raised in North Carolina, he earned a BA in Fine Arts and began his painting career in oils and watercolors. He has always had a mystical appreciation of the outdoors. His paintings focus on light filtering through the landscape; he softens the edges, implying detail rather than actively stating it. Michael describes his style as a combination of George Inness'' impressionism with the moods of an Albert Bierstadt painting. "I paint," he says "to help people notice the special moments that happen every day, especially the drama when light first splashes across a scene." From different perspectives and different times of day, he works to capture and interpret the varying moods of light.
