Press release

Trailside Galleries is pleased to announce Brent Cotton: Fire and Water, a showcase of new works by the Montana sporting artist.  The show will be on view at the gallery from July 16 through July 29.

The very popular and charismatic artist will have a limited number of larger and small works available during this event which presents an opportune time for collectors to acquire a signature Brent Cotton painting.   The artist is highly recognized for his atmospheric landscapes and fly-fishing scenes.

Over the years, Cotton’s style has evolved from tightly rendered to impressionistic and the work has moved toward the tonalist/luminist schools. Cotton says, “Several years ago I was heavily influenced by the mood and drama created by the forest fires surrounding my home in Montana.  As devastating as they were, I saw a beauty in the hazy light and the simplification of forms.  When I lived in Maui, it was fog instead of smoke that enveloped my home, but again, the mood and mystery inspired a new direction in my work.”

An avid outdoorsman Brent can often be found standing in one of the local rivers with a fly rod in his hand or on the oars of his drift boat.  The proximity to incredible trout streams is one of the many reasons he and his family make their home in the Bitterroot Valley of Montana.
